JOHNNY GALLAGHER
Recognized as one of the finest guitarists on the European circuit, Johnny Gallagher has been performing for years at festivals, clubs and venues across the continent.
With a saturated, rock’n’roll sound, he alternates original compositions with astonishing personal versions of some of the great classics (Pink Floyd, The Band, Lynyrd, Hendrix, Peter Green and Jimmie Rodgers… among others).
Over the years, Johnny Gallagher has won over audiences with his charisma, stage presence and infectious enthusiasm. He is also known for his ability to switch between explosive rock and calmer, more tender moments, while demonstrating great mastery of both electric and acoustic guitars.
His guitar playing covers a unique range of rock and country styles, with which he can naturally and masterfully transform himself into a true bluesman. His inimitable, expressive voice ranges from dynamic to mellow, from a scream to a whisper.
Not everyone is a Gallagher! Because people will quickly compare you to the melodic genius of some (Noel Gallagher) or the technical magnificence of others (Rory Gallagher). And if you’re a guitarist, bluesman and Irishman yourself, there’s no room for complacency! But the placid Johnny Gallagher doesn’t care about any of that, because his music speaks for itself, and not just once, but twice, as this production brings together the cream of his recordings since his first album in 1997!
Johnny Gallagher’s quiet confidence is anything but feigned, for, as the saying goes, “he fell into music at an early age”. His mother, a hairdresser, composed music in her spare time, while his father, his absolute idol, founded a band in 1959 with his brother, which had its moment of glory in Ireland. So much for the framework, the foundations of a construction now firmly anchored. Initially drawn to the drums (from the age of 9 in the local brass band in Bundoran, County Donegal), he went so far as to join his father’s band, with whom he toured the USA at the age of 12. This didn’t stop him from studying mandolin, banjo, violin and cello at the same time, like the insatiable classical music fan that he was! All this well before the guitar (and bass), for which he is now an indisputable reference! And singing, which his natural shyness long made an impregnable fortress!
